I can get a Yugo to go 200 mph if I load it with rocks and push it off a cliff, but that's not exactly the right way to do things now is it? I liken downhill miles to that. There's an existing thread on this topic already.

Please do not try to downgrade a good performance by bringing up the painfully obvious "IT WAS DOWNHILL". No shit, Sherlock. Anyone who can blister Jared Segara's ass by 12 seconds over a mile is pretty serious, dude. Take your negative sniping to Dyestat.
Maybe we shouldn't criticize the performance, but we should also keep the over-zealous compliments in check, as the 3:39 is too hard to categorize.
Let's wait to see what he does in a more conventional race that is easier to evaluate, because this one is too difficult.
FYI:
The Kenyan who won the 20k, the toughest road race in America, after running a 1.5 mile long hill at 3 - 4.5 miles and three more very significant hills, finished on this final mile in a time of 4:09 today.

This guy came from good ol' Milton West Virginia!!! He has managed to keep himself quiet for long enough!! He qualified for NCAA's in college, but didn't perform his best at the race, and now he is in the shape of his life!! I am not saying world record shape, but I wouldn't be surprised if he goes sub 8:30 in the steeple very soon. I also wouldn't be surprised to se a 3:39 1500 (on a track) very soon. Sorry to put unneeded pressure on you Case, but I know you can do it! Awesome job Casey!!!!

At the Ogden Newspaper 1 mile run Friday evening, a new standard was set on the roads for the 1 mile run at Wheeling, WV by a graduate of Marshall University. A young man ran the steep downhill course in 3:39.82 for a new
American road record. It crushed the old record of 3:46.54. I thought is ironical that a graduate of Marshall University working in Morgantown, WV, home of West Virginia University, won the race in such an amazing time. It
is especially ironical since both WVU and Marshall are dropping their cross-country running programs. The man's name is Casey Beaty and he is 24 years old and a former runner at Marshall University. The next 3 finishers

Actually Casey is nowliving in Morgantown and training with the WVUasis the 4th place finisher Adam Daniels who is a graduate of Georgetown University. A pretty nice group up there.
They have a pretty solid steeple bunch there. four under 9, hopefully 5 after this weekend.
