Has anyone attempted this double? If so, was your 400 really slow?

no. it has never been done before in all of the world's history. i don't even think it is humanly possible.
I tried it once, but I died while running the 400.
I was never able to run again because I'm dead now.
I tried it once -- ran the 1500 and came back and ran a leg on the 4 x 400. I did alright, although the 400 was tough after an all out 1500. It's probably good for your turnover / training if you are looking to peak later in the season.
i've seen guys do the 5k, 400 double, and even saw a guy run the 10k and then run a leg on the 4x4.
i once did a 1500, 800, 4x400 triple. and the leg of the really was pretty darn slow
A couple of times last year, I did the 5k then the 4x4 (B or C team). I still ran like 58 or 59 seconds, and I felt like death for the entire bus ride back to campus.
I've done it many times. I run the 1500 in 4:01 and have run the 400 sub 51 3 or 4 times. (1500 always first)
probably someone from a small team that needed points, or someone that doesn't know much about running
3:52 for the 1500, then a 46.9 4x400 split
In high school I ran the 1600 in 4:40 then ran the open 400 in 54 mid. I wasn't done there. I ran a 200 in 25 flat and then ran the anchor leg of the 4x400 in 53 high.
Did it in a big championship meet. Needed points.
3:45 trials, 48. 4 x 4 leg.
3:44 finals, 49. 4 x 4 leg.
Villanova threw the baton in an exchange on the 4x400 final, hence we won the IC4A's that year thanks to their football pass.
I CALL BS. THIS COULD NEVER HAPPEN.

I love this double. Why would your 400 be really slow? You'll probably only lose 1-2 seconds at most from being fatigued already.
that double isn't even impressive. and i don't think running a leg in the 4x4 justifies running a 400. relay legs often have some distance runner in them because there is no one else able to run. i'd like to hear about real doubles, like a mile/100 double, or a 5k/200 double, or something like that. a 5k guy running an open 400 would be so much better because they are out there exposing themselves to everyone, instead of hiding in a relay.
how about a sprinter, trying to run the 5k? that would be funny.
i once ran a 3:48 mile then came back in a 44 low for the 400.
My coach wants me to do this double at an upcoming meet -- 1500 and 400. I was just wondering what people thought (and I run on an open competitive team, although I am relatively new to running and just out of college). I wanted to double in the 1500 and 800 but my coach says the 400 is better for gaining turnover after the 1500. Regarding the 400, I'm not scared about hanging with the sprinters because I have raw speed, but just wondering if my time would be a lot slower than if I just ran the open 400. What do people think about this? Will it help my development as an 800 runner and has anyone tried it as an 800 runner early in their season? Thanks for any help.

Or just someone training for the 8?

Or someone that does know that running a 1500 and a 4 is a great preparation for the 8.
