Up to 7 yrs. Japan and Asia in general has some strict cannabis laws.
The US should have drug laws like this. Would end the fentanyl crisis in a year. Our tolerance for drugs is a weakness and results in high overdose rates and crime.
Wow, dude is delusional if he thought it was a good idea to try to sneak pot into JP. As a foreigner, he could see a decade in prison for that.
Yes he is a complete idiot and delusional, but use your brains people, he's not going to spend a decade in prison for this. I'd put the over/under at 90 days including his current detention time spent. But he won't be allowed back in Japan for the rest of his life.

I didn't say "definitely." Look, they have a 99% conviction rate, they don't bring charges unless they know the case is air-tight. Fox has nobody else he can inform on or testify against to hope for a plea deal for a light sentence. You think he has character witnesses up his sleeve who will pop up in court in Japan? Don't believe everything that you think.

Yes from some quick googling this seems the most common result but I didn't find the best sources. If anyone has some good data on what has happened in real cases like this in recent years I'd love to see it. But why would Japan want to pay to imprison foreigners for years? Only for deterrence if the issue started getting out of hand. Jail isn't cheap, not to mention providing healthcare to the prisoner, etc. So I think they just detain, deport and ban for a long period of time or for life.
I think he'd already be gone if he plead guilty and accepted the conviction and deportation to Australia. But he doesn't want to be deported to Australia. And that drug conviction on his visa would be a massive headache for all of his international travels. So it's not just the ban from Japan. Part of his business is organizing international training camps, not to mention traveling to international races, and he seems to not want to live in Australia.

This is the guy who complained of Americans being far too sensitive. Japan's like "hold my saké." All kidding aside, this is a terrible predicament to be in.
