Jakob could've had a chance in this race (at least against the 1500m specialists). His PB (from 2020) is 1:46.44. That is exactly what Wanyonyi did today
I don’t know about anyone specifically (whether Virén or another runner), but the Finns would never be shaking in their boots at home, at least partially because they’d practice Kalsarikännit.
I like Jakob, but I keep in mind it’s April, and the runners not bloated on PEDs like the Africans and some others are far from their peaks. We’ll see what happens when summer hits in earnest.
I’m not an expert but wouldn’t you get as much tailwind as headwind?
A headwind hurts you more than a tailwind helps you. This is common knowledge and easily explained by basic physics. This is also why the best conditions for running fast 400m and up is as little wind as possible.
Makes Arop’s time even more impressive, especially with front running and how big he is
Is being big bad? Marcos a powerful guy who can push through that wind. Agree on frontrunning, my sense is he ran smartly in the 1500 know the top guys were gone but he could boss today.
As for Jakob he ran 1:47 in his last 800 not in a gale like this so let’s not go crazy about him judging 800s.
His 800m PB was 5 years ago when he was a 3:30 1500m runner, he's a 3:26 runner now and possibly a 3:25 runner this year. I am sure ke is now a 1:44 runner.
