can any current collegiate athletes running the 1500m-5000m comment on how they use bicarb and any results after using it?
I’m a regional level 1500m-5k guy running at a mid-major.
My experience with bicarb hasn’t been as great as I’d hoped.
I have used the 19g bicarb system 90-120 minutes pre-race a handful of times over the past year. First time caused major diarrhea starting 30 minutes pre-race all way until the gun. Not painful, just unpleasant. Since then, I haven’t had bowel difficulties while using it, but I haven’t seen much difference in race performance.
All of my PRs have been run without using bicarb. I have gone fully lactic during the closing stages of every race I have used it.
While most on this site claim it’s nitro fuel for distance runners, I haven’t experienced its benefits.
