Spikes are much lighter than regular training shoes. The reduced weight on your feet causes a significant improvement in times. The grip of the spikes also improves performance.

Are you actually debating this dude? Come on. Flats dig into the track (assuming its not concrete or asphalt) and give you extra drive off the surface as you toe off.
all that matter is foot flexibility, weight, and traction. trainers just don't have those. spikes do. Now if I could just somehow grow spikes out of my feet that would be perfect.
