Why not? 5 year old = 40-50, 17 yr old = 88 miles.
Totally possibly.

And by the time he's fifty, how about 6000 miles?
It was always possible.
And now don't you believe I ran sub 2:00 pace for 26 miles of a marathon?! Wow, I sure was clueless as to how to run a marathon back then. Collapsing with less than 400m to go, I'm such a goof
That little kid doesn't have the speed for the marathon.. he needs to move up in distance
he might have run 88 miles away from his family
Speaking of Lindgren. I always had the feeling that Jack Daniel's Running formula was referring to Lingren when he discussed a high mileage elite runner. He said one runner logged something like 360 miles a week for 6 weeks and AVERAGED 240 miles a week for a year.
Always struck me as bat crap
To me, Lindgren is synonomous with horse shit.
One thing that is not horse shit is 13:44 for a HS Junior in 1964.
Actually, that's made up too, Gerry Lindgren is nothing more than a old wive's tale. He never existed, and all those who claimed to have seen him are either insane or filthy lying whores. Many believe he was based off of the story of Gilgamesh, the king who did, at one time, ran a 20:37 5K, which a far bit slower than 13:44.

Yes. He was a Senior in High School. And it was his very first 5000 meter race. On dirt! 42 years ago!!
