Did Donavan Brazier ever officially retire?

Perhaps Brazier, Cram and Ovett will race each other soon.

It’s honestly sad how that all went down. So unbelievably talented and then just… nothing. Never even ran at an Olympics. Often wonder what happened to his career and he doesn’t post on social media so hard to know for certain.

Now that his AR, collegiate record, etc are gone, it's almost like he was never even there, except for his WC gold of course.

What a shame.

his body betrayed him. simple as that. if he's done, I wish him the best, he still had a great career. had one of the single most exciting seasons of 800m running I've experienced, and was a phenomenal talent. reached heights very few do.

Maybe he was asking too much of his body. I recall him racing in sprint spikes which can’t be good for the foot over 800m. He also was low mileage, high intensity. When you hear that he broke his foot as his career ender, those details sound related.

The problem for many 800m runners (Nick Symmonds comes to mind), is that they can't just move up in distance like the rest of the distance runners.

For some reason, 800m runners (compared to true distance runners), have a harder time moving up to the 5,000m, 10,000m, and marathon.

That said, his body-type is pretty lean, I wonder if he ever thought about running the 5000m? Though it seems like more running would be hard for someone who can't stay healthy...

Well known that Brazier fell off because he had zero passion, Athing Mu is in the same boat.

Non-grinders have a few good seasons because of momentum and can't maintain their success because they have no passion.

I ran 1:51, 4:06 mile and consistently split low 49’s.
my 5k pb is 15:44

Aerobic ability just isn’t there relative to the other stuff.

i ran 2:32:50 in the marathon 10 years later, but could only run 55 mpw max before body broke down. Like, needed months to recover if workload was too high broke down

For someone who posts as much as you do, this is embarrassing.

alot of people blame Julian but honestly I don't think he was the issue. I think Brazier just got into a cycle of injury and the pandemic exasperated everything.

Honestly, if it wasn't for the pandemic he probably would have been Olympic champion in 2020. After 2019 + the 3:35 with the 52 last lap he ran in 2020 the sky was the limit. I thought he was gonna run 3:27 + 1:40 one day lol.

It’s funny I had nearly identical 800/mile but 47.x 400m.

I could manage 100mpw weeks in my mid-30s but no matter how hard I trained I could only run 17:00 for the 5K and 2:47 for the marathon after 5 years of distance running.

That or shadow bans.

I'll never forget him as the guy who finally broke those barriers. The AR stood for SO long and it took (what seemed at the time) a generational talent to finally break through. Kind of tragic that he could never get the Olympic trials right... reminds me of Steve Holman in the 90s.
