Normal people are okay being out-of-shape or somewhat fit. It's because they're psychologically secure with their natural self.

People are out of shape because they are lazy. People are okay with complacency. Sure, some runners probably are running "from something", but I think most runners are pursuing the best versions of themselves by running

In the early '80s someone came out with a study that claimed excessive running was effectively a form of bulimia.
Anti runners made a big deal out of that.... You tried to explain to them that even as a hobby... in order to run to the best of your ability... you had to do "excessive running"...
If I could have PR'd off of 3 miles four times a week... I probably would have trained like that.
Yeah because being fit is a sign of someone being "insecure", if anything, fat people are the ones who are insecure a lot of the time.
Human populations were once hunters and gatherer societies. You think running is something we only do nowadays to cope? lmao its part of us as the instinct we are born with.
Some people are truly regarded... like OP wanting to give Ted Cruz a lifetime supply of BJs.
Maybe, maybe not.
I wouldn't call it insecurity, just plain unhappiness. When you are unhappy you get stir crazy and start roaming.
Of course. But everyone has something.
Think of it more as self titration of a therapeutic protocol
By that same logic you could describe my need for money as an insecurity about not having a roof over my head. Or my eating healthy as an insecurity about needlessly dying early. This list goes on and on.
People will always want to believe, whether it's true or not, that other people are doing something only for a negative reason. So when they don't do those things, they have nothing to feel bad about. They're the normal ones you see. Not that weirdo that is actually doing something to tangibly improve their life.
Distance running is certainly therapeutic. I do it because I’m better than average at it naturally, and I enjoy it.
Most of us spend way too much time inside and on screens. I get 45 minutes - 2 hours of being outdoors without my phone. Nobody can text, call or email me.
I also like that I look better when I’m running 45mpw.
Nope.
No, it was just a hobby I got into.
Pretending to not care about being out of shape is more of a cope than actually just exercising every now and then. No one says you have to look like the rock. But being sedentary and fat is probably the worse thing psychologically you could do to yourself besides maybe being an alcoholic or drug addict.
There seem to be some people who post here who that might apply to, but IRL I think most distance runners just do it because it's their preferred way to stay active. Some people play in recreational soccer leagues, some people hit the gym, some people run, etc. It's just a matter of preference.
Forget about it
sort of… I’m chasing the runner’s high.
OP you know you are mentally ill. So running maybe helped you some but in the end you are mentally ill either way.
OP, not gonna lie, but that's the dumbest thing I've recently read on the board.
Normal people usually don’t like their out of shape and unhealthy bodies
