4th U20 all-time behind Ghebriwet, Koech and Mehary ; better than guys like Aregawi or Barega.
how fast can he run this summer ?
Can we chill on this narrative a tad…Barega ran 12:43 for 5,000 in old spikes at the same age. Mehary 12:54/26:37 younger. Myers is historic but it’s at 1500…and this is a really promising 3,000 mark. Also valid Qs on these guys ages, but Myers is a phenom period, though a little behind Jakob/Laros (gap may really shrink this year).
EDIT: Just wary of putting him ahead of Bekele or something lol

To answer your post though I think he can run 3:30-1 and probably 7:30 outdoors. I worry he’ll fall a little short of the Tokyo final but he will make the Aussie team.

1) He's not a age cheater 2) 7'33 indoor 3000m is equivalent to 12'50 outdoor 5000m (i know people don't give much credit to the IAAF scoring table here but it is what it is)
3) he's a little behind jakob and laros at the same age (18's season : 3'31 vs 3'33) ; but i'm sure the gap will shrink this year yes ; and Laros ran 13'23 at 18, I'm sure 7'33 is better !

You're missing the hype train
So Coscoran is a 12:45 guy. Enjoy the hype train! Yes he is ahead of Laros at 3,000 no doubt. He ran 7:33 and I think has a great 3:48-9 chance at Millrose.

Bad take. Idk why you’re dumping on Myers. Kid is ridiculous.
Quite obviously he's more of a 1500m runner, I don't think anything else was ever implied. I would guess he has a nice breakthrough this year and dips under 3:30.

thoughtsleader? a-hole
Nah. He might some growing arrogance but the fact is he’s very informed and he’s right more often than not, which is probably what’s bothering you. I don’t get the need for his “slow the hype train” take on this thread at all though.
I think Myers can run 3:29.9 outdoors this year at 19. 3:31 at a minimum if he’s healthy. As for 5k, 7:33 indoors is definitely not worth 12:50 outdoors for anyone (throw out the different WA points for indoor events, they’re garbage in this era), but least of all for a teen miler. Myers is probably closer to 13:10 currently than 13:00 I would guess. If he gets in a great 3k setup in July through September, then sub-7:30 is on the table this year, but I doubt we’ll see that.
Coscoran ran great today. Yeah he’s not a 12:45 guy, obviously, but it looks like he could break through in the 5k and possibly break 13 this year.
Myers ran 3.52 12 months ago; in crappy conditions in Melbourne with a 17 yo boys physique. Now he's has filled out, upped his mileage and is super strong. Barring disaster he's running 3.48 next week. World under 20 mile record is 3.48 low. Go Cam!

Showing your true colours again here.
You've repeatedly denigrated Myers, yet a 3:35 Moroccan 21 year old 'excites you'.
These are incredible times for an 18 year old Western kid.
To compare him to a couple of East African 'teens' in order to denigrate him is ridiculous. Also, you again need reminding that an Australian teenager is at a disadvantage to Laros and Jakob in having to travel across the world.
Also, it's noticeable that you wont defend the likes of the 15 year old New Zealand kid from doping accusations, yet you'll ardently defend even people like Manangoi after they've been suspended.
Myers is 18 and will be 19 for most of the outdoor season (June 9, 2006 birthdate). He ran 2:17.44 and 3:50.15 outdoors last year at 18 and 1:47 indoors last year at 17. His 1500m pr is 3:33. He has now also run 7:33. He seems to be more of a 1500/3000 than 800/1500 guy right now. He would figure to run low 13 5000m on this fitness now if it transfers to 5. He's probably going to run 1:45-46 in the 800m outdoors. He definitely has a great shot at sub-3:50 at Millrose and will probably run 3:48 outdoors this summer, to go with 3:30-31.
Because he's turning 19 this June, the prospect standards ratchet up a lot. Ingebrigtsen ran 3:31.18 at 17 and 3:30.16 at 18. At 19, almost 20, he ran 3:28.68 and at 20, he won Olympic Gold in 3:28.32. At 23, he ran 3:26.73. So, there is a lot of work to be done here for Myers. Ingebrigtsen is also faster at 800m, 1:46.44 at 18. Myers is ahead in the mile but Ingebrigtsen ran 3:47 at 20. Myers is ahead of him by a lot at 3k at the same age, with 7:33 vs. 7:51, but Jakob ran 7:27.05 just before his 20th birthday. At 5000, Jakob ran 13:02 sit and kick at 18 and then 12:48 at 20.
Laros is still 19 and will be 20 April 17. He's a legitimate medal shot in the 1500m. He ran 1:44.78 at age 18 and several months in 2023. So, he is well ahead at the same age at 800m. He ran 2:14.37 for 1000m last year at 19. Laros is 3 seconds ahead of Myers at 1k (but a year older) and 2+ seconds ahead at 800m. Laros ran 3:31.25 at 18 in 2023, two seconds ahead of what Myers has done so far at 18. At 19, Laros ran 3:29.54, four seconds ahead of Myers so far. It's possible that he gets that at 19 this summer but he has a ways to go. But Myers has him for the time being at the 3k/5k, 7:48 in 2022 and 13:23 in 2023. I expect Laros, with his Euro xc exploits, is significantly better than that now but he has to run the times. The two are coming at the mile from different directions but Myers has a lot to do to match him as a prospect still. This 3k goes a good way towards it, but if you consider that the top miler all around and coming from a 1500/5000 background is a 7:17 3000m runner, Myers has a lot of work to do.
Bottom line, Myers is a great prospect who is still behind Laros and Ingebrigtsen as a prospect despite the two U20 mile/3000m marks.

I didn’t mean to denigrate him. I think he’s a great prospect and this indoor season he’s running great. I didn’t like the implication he’s the best 3K+ prospect ever. I think Bekeles age is legit and he’s the guy.
Totally fair on Myers’ travel disadvantages. I haven’t been in that Ruthe thread much but I don’t think he should be accused of doping. Of course not but certain posters harbor prejudices. I think you’re referring to Essayi who has run 3:32? Not sure your beef, he’s turned a corner in his career.

Yeah, sure. Take any African’s age with a grain of salt.
Nice to see another Philly Talent represent. His 2 Older Brothers were good talents as well and his father (Fran Hoey) was a good mid-distance runner at Malvern Prep back in the 1980's.
Would be nice to see him and Gary Martin (Archbishop Wood) try and make it onto the 2028 Olympic Teams.
Should be comparing this year to Jakob's 2019 season. Cam's birthday is 3 months earlier than Jakob's, which is not really significant. This is a far better comparison point than looking at the next year when Jakob had been 19 for 9 months already.
But you can't just look purely at times. Super shoes have changed things, even if not as much in the 800/1500 as the 5000/10000. Look at their places. The year Jakob turned 19, he was a legitimate contender in the 1500 and 5000 at Doha. Probably gave a medal away in the 5000.
