What's the deal with China's Deep Seek Ai that reportedly execeeds Silicon Valley's A I and caused NASDAQ to fall?

Because they do it at 1/10th of the price, which exposes the bubble, which will soon BURST. KABOOWIE!

And how will this affect NVIDIA stock prices which have already started to show a slump.

Google LLM came out in 2014 on open source github. 10.000 teams are using the same LLM to make money.

If the Chinese can do it the same or better for a fraction of the price, even after being restricted from US advanced chips, then that questions the validity of Nvidia. All of tech is taking a beating, which I'm pretty happy about since Elon is heavily invested into that sector and losing billions.

This thread made me look at the news to see what's going on. Maybe the best short summary is above.

DeepSeek out performs all other AI models but is open source and does NOT required the crazy expensive NVIDIA GPUs to run. Cost for same performance as OpenAI is 1/30 to 1/50.

Is this the direct result of the US trying to bully the world with arbitrary sanctions? In China they can't but the highest end chips... so that had no choice but to re-invent AI to run on anything. You can thank the US government for costing the tech bros in SV many billions.

It is a bit reminiscent of compact disc players. I remember when they first hit the market. They were only at audiophile stores and cost $700-800 (probably $2,500ish adjusted for inflation). About ten years later, you could by a portable CD player for about $40 at Kmart.

DeepSeek is pretty much the $40 portable CD player to NVIDIA's $800 early market entrant. It wasn't supposed to move this fast. The big AI companies were supposed to be light years ahead of any small time market entrant because of the restrictions on selling advanced chips to China and the short term memory of Silicon Valley in forgetting how often the tech giants get their buts beat by tiny start ups.

You're certainly entitled to your opinions. And you may not be a US citizen. But all over this board, you seem to be gleefully celebrating major US challenges. Why would you be happy that China is getting AI wins? If you are American, it won't matter that Trump was wrong or that Elon is losing investment cash when you're locked in the enemy's cage.

I think the difference here is that most other critics - whether it is a critic of Trump, or Biden, or Bush, or Obama - tend to have an alternative plan to suggest, whereas you're just gloating about anything anti-USA. Maybe you just hate the USA...?

Are there any reputable sources that have installed and run deepseek outside of china? was it just trained on the test cases? I looked around for the past 10 minutes and can’t find anything convincing.

It's functionally worthless, doesn't actually make anyone money. Doesn't do any work for free, you still have to have pay people.

its rise has paralleled the rise of crypto, whose only use is to be an unregulated market. There's always a niche for a black market, but only a niche. So it will be for AI.

They'll just ignore, censor or order an injunction (press ban) upon any damning info or studies that would possibly hit major news markets. The lefty news is already sponsored/paid off enough by big pharmacy endless money supply to only compose good publicity and not bad. They'll always use the loophole of "you can't prove it was the vaccine" or that "source is not expert (corporate bound) or reliable." The control of the "information" is the catalyst regarding big fraudmaceuticals running roughshod over information control. There's a reason why Mark Zuckerberg decided to revolt against the oppressive information controllers who wanted to censor any narrative but their own. Be patient. Let the R&D process unfold. It's a technical issue amongst peers.

Google Mountain View CA came out w LLM Open Source in 2014. R&D people started using LLM then.

Many teams have made improvements to the Open Source.

Not just the LLM, but also the legacy Source Codes: Python3, Anaconada 3, Data Science, Sci Kit, Machine Learning, Tensor Flow, Py Torch, OpenCV, etc.

Deep Seek made the improvements proprietary.

That's their perogative.

Other teams are reverse engineering the improvements now and will update the Open Source.

Then the R&D process repeats on and on.

Deep Seek made their modifications to the source code proprietary, but they released marketing papers and engineering details of what they offer. Thus, World Wide ,teams of engineers are parsing the words for what Deep Seek has done. Improvements will be encoded into the Google LLM Source Codes. It won't result in an exact copy. But enough to get a Ph.D Candidate though his thesis.
