Can we start calling Jakob out for dodging the competition? The Wanamaker is one of the most prestigious mile races in the world every year, and the most prestigious during indoors. Kerr and Nuguse, two of the people who beat him in Paris are racing it literally 5 days before Jakob is racing a mile, and Nuguse has come within like .3s of the WR in each of the last 2 years. I expect it to go down with Kerr to compete against. Plus the third person who beat him in Paris, Hocker, is racing the 3k at Millrose.
There is clearly a meet with the best competition, and Jakob is clearly choosing not to race it. I love Jakob for always showing up at DLs, he's one of my favorite athletes, and I know Lievin always runs a great meet, but just because I love an athlete doesn't mean I won't call them out for dodging what could end up being one of the greatest indoor races in history. We could have seen the 2-3-4 from the Olympics all push each other under the mile WR on US soil at the biggest meet of the regular season on national TV.
Honestly the more I think about it, the more I think Jakob is actually afraid that he'd get outkicked and miss out on the WR. He thinks he can run faster on his own than Nuguse and Kerr can run off of each other, but he's not confident that Nuguse or Kerr wouldn't be able to latch onto him and outkick him. To be fair, he shouldn't be, but still, it comes off to be as some p*ssy a*s b*tch sh*t for someone who was calling out Kerr the other day for not contributing to WR racing.
THose guys will have each other to push though, while jakob will likely run by himself, with something like 1000-1100 meters of pacing.
I don’t see this an advantage for Nuguse and Kerr at all. Jakob is very much used to leading races after the rabbit has done its job. That will not be foreign to him in Lievin and he likely will not have any difficulty with positioning. That can’t be said for Nuguse and Kerr, who rely on Jakob a lot to push the pace for them after the rabbit veers off. And both of them will very much be fighting for position the last 400/200/100 on the tight indoor bends. Jakob will run much closer to a true 1609.344 meters vs Nuguse and Kerr.

Nope. Indoor track is about running fast times and there’s not really anything to “win”. When outdoors starts, Kerr, Nguse, Hocker and Kessler, will know where to find Ingebrigtsen.
I'm also wondering why Jakob is not racing Millrose either. This has become a Nike venue recently; there is a high chance Millrose is a Nike event, so sponsorship duty?

My takeaway is somewhat different. It is that I should probably give Duck Duck Kerr a little more benefit of the doubt.
The reasons for each to run where they are running are the same: more money, history with the meet, multi year contract obligations (at least for Jakob), and convenience/travel.
These reasons are also part of why Jakob runs so many European races and why Kerr is doing Grand Slam Track. Totally logical.
I also don’t think Jakob is the slightest bit afraid to race them. He is very close to his top form year round, and by all accounts his training is going according to plan. Josh is not like that, only peaking for 1 good race a year.

I understand why athletes dodge each other, but that doesn't mean I support when athletes do it. I have a soft spot for athletes who are trying to make it but haven't hit it big (no medals, no WRs, no big appearance fees, no big contracts), so they tailor their season very specifically around maximizing money. But for Jakob f*cking Ingebrigtsen? He'll be ok if he forgoes the Lievin appearance fee for the Millrose appearance fee.
I also probably wouldn't be so upset about it if he wasn't literally in the news a couple days ago sh*tting on Kerr. If he wants to claim he's the best, then he shouldn't dodge the best when they show up to race each other.

This narrative is so stupid... There is going to be a pacer for 1000-1100 meters. I guess Yared Nuguse who has run 3:47 twice indoors and Josh Kerr (who took the lead from Jakob at the Pre Classic) are incapable of running hard for 500 meters.
Give me a break, your GOAT got slammed outdoors. The only 1500m "races" he wins are DL time trials. He's dodging Kerr and Nuguse because he knows that in a race that matter (going for the world record) he's getting slammed again.

TRUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE and now he's not even good enough (or rather, everyone else is finally getting good enough) to always win those time trials either.
convenience of travel is the biggest reason these guys end up dodging each other. it's just not convenient for getting in the type of training block these guys are working on.
that said, there's a big difference between Jakob coming all the way over here for a one off, versus guys going to Europe for multiple weeks to compete during a time that is almost everyone's main racing season.
I get it though. Josh is basically American now. Europe is a long way away from his home base.

Those guys aren't gonna run much more than 1609. Nuguse, Hocker or Kerr will settle in behind the pacer (most likely Nuguse?), and then the other guys will make one move to pass. So one of them should be close to 1609. The others will have an extra meter or two if they run smart. If they decide to race throughout instead of time trial, it will be more. But racing is not what Jakob is trying to do. He wants a pure TT

Lol, this may be the worst post you’ve ever written. Congrats. Jakob destroyed Nuguse in Monaco, a race where he was 0.7 seconds away from 3:26. Oh and did you forget the 3:43 in Eugene? where Jakob did most of the work? Kerr barely races, why would Jakob go out of his way to travel all the way to the US just to win an indoor race against Kerr? The more I think about it, this is actually a smart move from Jakob to see if Kerr and Nuguse can actually run a WR without them just sitting behind him nicely. This goes in line with his statement of “contributing to WR racing”. Yes, the WR may be on the line but the reality is that Indoor WRs don’t matter as much as outdoors. Jakob has said this. He has also run this meet almost every year indoors other than last year when he was injured. I’m sure Kerr won’t have a problem facing Jakob at European and World Indoors right? I mean, Jakob has already expressed he would race those if everything goes to plan.
Also how do you know it’s the biggest meet? Do you have actual viewing numbers?

It’s a little more nuanced -some months ago Jakob said in an interview that he would skip Flagstaff because of the long travel and the jet lag, and because of his family back home. So I think both Kerr (and also the Americans) but also Jakob have to be taken seriously when it comes to the disadvantage of long travels from continent to continent…

Yet Nuguse was incapable of breaking the record either time. Indoor WRs don’t matter as much as outdoors. So it’s very telling when an athlete struggles to break an indoor mark, that they are not great at setting WRs/“contributing to WR racing”

Jakob is still the king, as evidenced by his 4th straight track and field news #1 ranking. If anything, Kerr and Nuguse should be travelling to France to race against him.

He will break whatever WR Nuguse or Kerr runs in Millrose 5 days earlier lol.
I’m not really sure what to predict here. I guess he sets the lights to whatever Nuguse or Kerr runs if they set a new WR. I could see a 3:46 in Millrose followed by a 3:45 in Lievin. We aren’t sure in what shape all three are in.

If this is what you say for Jakob I CANNOT EVEN IMAGINE what you have to say about Hocker.
