Shelby Houlihan becomes eligible to race on Monday, Jan 13.
Houlihan has run USATF Indoors every year from 2016 through her suspension in 2020 so it is safe to assume she will want to run it this year. However, she needs to get a qualifier.
In past years, her opener was:
2016 - Feb 20 Millrose (5000) followed by March 1 USATF (3000) 20 days later
2017 - Feb 10 BU Valentine (mile) followed by March 4 USATF (mile) 22 days later
2018 - Feb 3 BU Scarlett and White Invite (3000) followed by Feb 17 USATF (1500 & 3000) 14 days later
2019 - Feb 23 USATF (mile and 2-mile)
2020 - Feb 1 UW Invite (800 & mile) followed by Feb 14 USATF (1500 & 3000) 13 days later
With USATFs on Feb 22, it seems like her opener will probably be no earlier than Feb 1 and no later than Feb 9 based on past years. The qualifying window closes on Feb 15.
Some potential meets include:
Jan 25 Dr. Sander Invitational (800m, mile, 3000m, 5000m)
Jan 31-Feb 1 - UW Invitational (800m, mile, 3000m, 5000m)
Jan 31-Feb 1 - BU Terrier Classic (mile, 3000m, 5000m)
Feb 2 - New Balance Indoor Grand Prix (if she can get an invite)
Feb 8 - BU Scarlett and While Invitational (800m, 1000m, mile, 3000m, 5000m)
Feb 8 - Millrose (if she can get an invite)
Feb 14-15 UW Husky Classic (800m, mile, 3000m, 5000m)
Feb 14-15 BU Valentine Invitational (mile, 3000m, 5000m)
So, where do you think she will make her debut?
My guess is the UW Invitational. This will be close to Oregon to minimize travel and will leave her with two potential backup meets (Scarlett & White, Husky Classic/BU Valentine) in case she doesn't hit the standard in the first one.
