Hi!
Just got off of a big marathon training block and feeling like focusing in on the 5k for the next few months. My current "PR" is 21:31, but I set it during a half marathon LOL so it's not an all-out effort or anything. I know 18:xx is ambitious, but I want to try something new and get faster (feels like marathon-specific workouts are nice but I want something short and intense for now).
Some more details: ran CIM in the beginning of the month, ran it in 3:18:30 (goal was 3:15 so not super happy with it but I couldn't get food down in the morning and hit the wall at mile 20), ran staten island half a few months before in 1:36 (again, wasn't feeling great and had a panic attack at mile 12 and stood on the sidewalk for a minute whoooops). My peak mileage was 65 MPW, which was tough to do along with work. I did 1-2 workouts per week, some mona fartleks in the beginning, did in-and-outs for some long runs (I think my longest in-and-out workout was 14miles with 7:10s for the ons and 7:30s for the floats), did various repeats at LT, the list goes on.
I'm a 23 year old woman, never ran cross country and only started getting really serious about running in 2023.
I guess my questions are: how would workouts differ, what paces should I try to hit on workouts, and how long should it take to reach this PR so I can plan a 5k race? Thanks!
Edit: also curious what weekly mileage would be best
