chased by a tom turkey

Same thing happened to me a few weeks back. I posted it on the masters thread. Running away was not enough to discourage the two that went after me . I had to fend them off with a tree branch for several minutes.

I just gobbled back and them and they chased me for 2-3 mins untill I got out of the woods... they were gobbling the whole time at me. I was laughing so hard I almost couldn't run. I think they forgot they are TURKEYS!!!

You had to fend them off with a branch!?

I wonder what your HRM would have read. La di da di da just running along and then TURKEYS! and you've spiked a 99% that throws the entire program into glitch.

But, seriously- a couple of turkeys could seriously hurt a guy. I've been attacked by a goose, and what the goose does, is jump up and whack with his wings, and somehow manage to fling the smelliest crap in the world- guaranteed to get into your hair, too. But geese just have nice little webbed feet, so they can't scratch you too bad, but turkeys- they have big, nasty claws. It would be like getting killed by a dragon.

I guess I was lucky that my turky just kind of charged me, and stopped when I sprinted away. But two minutes of fending off? Were you like Zoro or something?

Next time, I'm going to yell something like, "mesquite smoked!" or "thanksgiving!" But I hope there is no next time.

....man it was like I was in the middle of a low budget horror flick with the local town being terrorized by abnormally large, dino-turkey. One of them was taller than my 6 year old son. I had visions of impaled calf muscles and lacerations etc. It probably looked hilarious but I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Running down MacArthur Blvd this morning and two huge freaking carrion birds were on the sidewalk, I mean they were freaking huge. One of them sqwacked at me, and I had to run out into the road. They were like the size of a dishwasher.

I am getting sick of this crap, i have been chased by a number of weird animals lately...

A fox was following me on the canal the other day, those damned geese are going to be a problem soon too, once their geeslings start popping out. And the deer are out of control on Roosevelt island.

Are their talons sharp?

They spend all day scratching in the woods. Yes, they're SHARP.

I got a funny "walking bird" stoy for you (not sure if it was a turkey or some large type of pheasant or something). I was camping in the woods in a spot that wasn't known to contain much wild life. I woke up in the middle of the night to hear "crunch, crunch, crunch" not too far from me. Now I had purposely camped somewhere where no person would likely just being walking through in the middle of the night, so it startled me because this sound was DISTINCTLY the sound of someone/something on two feet walking through woods at 3am right towards me. I listened and it kept coming closer. I was getting sort of freaked out, and finally yelled out "hey, who's there? " It stopped, and stayed motionless for awhile, as I listened more. Then suddenly it started running right towards me in my tent! I was really sort of freaking and hopped out with my flashlight "who's there, whos' there?" The sound stopped again but I couldn't see anyone/thing, and then I heard it run off as making some weird sound that I could not place. I was SURE it was a person, because of the two foot walking/running sound, and I would never have guessed it was a two foot animal.

But of course, later on I was in those same woods during the day and saw some large bird from afar. When it saw me it ran off. Pretty funny, that that bird had me so freaked out! (like I said, I have never seen a large wild bird in these woods, or in any other woods for that matter, so It never crossed my mind that some creatures that I could come in contact with besides humans would be walking on two feet)
