So it went from Pulišić to Pulisic? Such a huge change is unheard of.
All bets are off in pronouncing Eastern European names correctly in the US. I knew a Dworaczyk, which is Polish. It should be Duh vor ah chick. But his family had long Americanized it as sounding like Gerosick. I think a thick Midwest accent had something to do with it.
Asian names are also tough. I was in grad school with a girl from China. She wanted everyone to call her "Jenny". She said that Chinese people adopt a western name when studying abroad so they do not have to listen to Americans and Europeans butcher their name. Her Chinese name was pronounced "When Fay". It was probably one of the easiest Chinese names to say for an English speaker. But she still insisted on "Jenny" because that is what they were told to do when they came to the US to study.
Bigger changes are usually from one language into English because we can't say the original.
Pietr Mickiewiczs could easily become Peter Mickelson. That would be a way to make life a lot easier (but you'd lose your "heritage" to some extent after a generation or two).

Yes, as I said in the OP it's happened many times. What's interesting about Pulisic to me is seeing it happen in real time, which I usually don't.
If the Poles and Yugos had used the Cyrillic script designed for their language, they wouldn't lose their heritage so easily. Their name would have been accurately transliterated to preserve the pronunciation.
Better to be Kszczot than to lose your heritage. Slavs aren't Romans
