Most people rank Redick than Novak in Mock Drafts but if a team is looking for a shooter they should pick Novak.
Novak is shooting almost as good as Redick from beyond the arc, as unathletic as Redick but at 6-10 he can shoot over 99% of all NBA SFs while Redick is undersized for the SG Position, so Novak doesn't need the team playing for him, running screens to get him in position while the team that drafts Redick will have to adjust their game to use his strengths.
They will play different positions in the NBA, but I agree with what you are saying. Although you are likely correct, Redick will get picked way ahead of Novak. Novack might remain in the league longer.

I think Reddick's best hope is a Jerry Sichting/Jim Les type career, which ain't bad. Jeff Hornacek in his dreams. Anyone who drafts him in the 1st round is bonkers but he'll probably stick around for a year or two on college reputation (Alford) and then have to prove he should stick. I'd rather draft Paulus.
Marcus Williams has much greater NBA potential.
Novak should fit in as the token tall white shooter. If he can learn to use all 6 fouls effectively against a #4 or #5 he'll be of even greater use.
as a forward, novak will be asked to rebound as well as match up against the league's most talented position. he's too slow to guard quicker sf's and too soft to guard down low.
meanwhile, all jj has to do is hit open jumpers (which are plentiful on the bigger court, especially when you're the team's 2nd or 3rd or 4th or 5th option) and defend the weakest opposing guard on the perimeter.
as an aside, can you imagine jj playing for the suns?
Novaks defense is weak but even more is Redicks, Novak is slow but at least tall, Redick is slow AND undersized.
Novak can shoot when he is not guarded. Get in his face and he lays bricks. He is a big pussy, too. Cry's foul everytime a defender gets in his face. No doubt he can shoot the lights out when no one defends him, but so could that J-mac kid - the team manager on a high school who lit it up for 20 points in 4 minutes or whatever.
The pro game will kick his ass.
For the most part it would be safe to say that letsrun users dont know anything about basketball. The fact is, most of you distance peeps got into running because you could not cut it in basketball or other team sports. I played hoops in HS and was somehow recruited so i know a thing or two about basketball. For those of you who think JJ will fail at the NBA fail to realize that he will not be guarded nearly as hard as he was in college. He was the focal point for every defense in every game he played his junior and senior years. The NBA will not d him up like in college. He moves better than anyone else in the draft and will score 90% of his points by moving and getting a kick out pass from the big man. JJ will have a lenghty career and will always find playing time. Also a playoff team would love to have JJ shoot foul shots towards the end of games. Hell, he could make a career out of this.

you missed the point. they may be equally poor defenders but jj's weaknesses will be easier to hide when he's guarding the worst guard on the court on the perimeter. forwards in the nba are a huge liability if they can't rebound well and guard the ball down low.
consider if novak or jj were on a team playing the nuggets, for instance. novak, as a forward, would either be asked to guard carmelo or rebound AND defend against either kenyon martin or marcus camby. neither possilibity is worth any percentage of wide open 3s that novak could hit. jj, on the other hand, only has to guard ruben patterson or earl boykins, which would not be that hard even with a quickness disadvantage.
finally, theres a reason jj scored 28 ppg and novak 17.5. jj is a much, much better scorer, for a variety of reasons, and will be in the nba too.
With all of the idiotic running discussion on this message board, it's no surprise that the basketball discourse is even further off the mark. "lech fan" is the only one with a clue.
A lot of people say that Redick can't play defense or drive to the hoop. How good were Reggie Miller and Allan Houston at those two aspects of the game? Both of those guys were all-stars. I'm not saying Redick is a surefire all-star, but he will play in the league for a long time. And I hate Duke as much as anyone else.
By the way, Greg Paulus will never play in the NBA.
Uh Onionhead, I think I should point out that Novak scored 41 and had 16 rebs against UCONN when they were in his face all day long.
Irish guy...I was at that game and UCONN played no defense at all. You are wrong...they did not D him at all. Once the Big East figured out that all you have to do is have a guy play D on Novak to shut him down...he maybe had 3 20+ point games the rest of the way...and when it counted in the Big East and NCAAtourney, Novak was a non-factor.

There is no question who was the better college player(but consider that Novak was shooting better/more efficient than Redick).
Well against the Denver Nuggets it might be better to have Redick than Novak in the defense but what about playing against the Lakers for example?I would rather have Novak defending Walton than Redick Kobe Bryant.
