Also a great rendition. I think the Whitney version is the greatest ever. I was 14 and obviously it was during the Gulf War but Stapleton absolutely mastered it as well and I can certainly appreciate anyone who wants to put his at the top.

A good national anthem + flyover is one of the most important American experiences.

A lot less people stand for nationalist songs these days. As generations go by I think that trend will continue.

The Star Spangled Banner was based on an old British tavern song. It should be belted out and not embellished as much as Stapleton and Houston. Whitney's version is great, but...

Yes it does. However the moment that normally gives me the most goosebumps (transition to 'Oh, say! does that star-spangled banner yet wave...') is a bit understated in this rendition.

Every time I line up for a race and they play the National Anthem maybe not goose bumps but it makes me grateful for my life and what I've done with it. Some people go through their whole life never finding what they are looking for. I got lucky 30 years ago when I found running to constantly challenge myself.

A whole different feeling when you line up to give 100% compared to the normal day grind. But you just keep assuming it probably works great for you.
