My consistent. He'll never win one of these things but it's nice have an American who doesn't underperform half the time.
The WOMANS WORLD RECORD is 2:09.
He can barely beat a woman’s time. He sucks. If you can’t run 2:04 or faster you are an “also-ran” or “hobby jogger”
Eyestone has got to be thinking 35 years ago I ran 2:10, these kids today have super shoes and huge amounts of exercise science data and can only go 2:08/2:09.

Tough to win one. You’d think an Olympic year would be a better opportunity, but each post-Paris major had very impressive performances on the men’s side. A podium would be a worthy goal, but he needs to jump to the 2:04 level for that.

The course is much slower than Chicago, and that women's WR is a massive outlier and honestly kinda sus compared to other women's performances. Plus he was less than 2 minutes off the winner and less than 1 off the Olympic champ. Also, if 2:04 is the standard to not be a "hobby jogger", literally every American in history is a hobby jogger considering the American Record is 2:05. All things considered, it's not an earth shattering performance but a very solid one from Mantz regardless
Deliver’s what? Another disappointing performance where he is dusted by the East African contingent, runs an unimpressive time, and finishes top ten in an otherwise watered down field? Mantz and Young suck.
Mantz only was 81 seconds behind the winner. Lead pack went out at 5:10 pace for 5k. Overall pace didn’t get under 5 until after 25k. NYC must not pay for pace setters and course is hardest of the majors. Course record 2:04:58 so no one was running 2:04 after 5:10 at 5k. Props to Mantz. Also props to Boston Billy. He won 4 times in a row from 76-79 including a low 2:10 course record. No pace setters then either. Chicago, Berlin etc. pay for pace setters. New York is more a pure race in my mind and time often doesn’t matter.
