6 x 2000m (track in Chivasso, near Torino) with 1:45 recovery, in 6:41.2 - 6:29.0 - 6:37.0 -6:32.0 - 6:26.0 - 6:15.4 (average 6:30)
Interesting. I assume that the widely varying splits were intentional to simulate surging in the race (?).

of the Boston Marathon. No U.S. runners. What happened ?
Rita
runmad,
I live in Japan, too. Where do you live?
Renato,
Good to have someone on this board who talks about running once and a while. Love the posts. Please keep them coming when you have time.
It's good to have the REAL Nobby back... not this Nobby Nomates fellow who keeps popping up.
Thanks for adding your "two yen" to the thread; I'm sure Rita appreciated the help.
And again, I'm anxious to hear about the Boston experience... when you get a chance.

I'm living in Anjo, which is a 25-minute train ride from Nagoya; how about you?
Shobu, which is about a 40 min. train ride into Tokyo. Was in Nagoya for the women's marathon. Enjoyed running in Shonai Ryokuji Koen. Pissed rain, but a good race, especially by Hiroyama. Was rooting for Shibui, though ,( How long you been here? You run? WHat do you do?
There's a race in Shonai Ryokuchi Koen next Sunday, but I'm not doing it... did it once and all the loops (and weaving in and out to pass people) got to me. Of course I watched the Nagoya race live on TV... nothing against Shibui, but it was nice to see Hiroyama finally win one. Shibui ran a "courageous" race, shooting for Q-chan's course record, I'll give her that.
Been here a l-o-n-g time (20 years). I have my own English conversation school. I manage about 70 kilomters a week, and race 14 or 15 times a season up to 30 K (but mostly 10 K). Not as good as I once was... breaking 39 now is a "good day."
Sorry for not replying sooner. 20 years! Wow. I thought I had been here a long time as I am coming on 6 years. I have thought about having my own Eikaiwa kyoshitsu, but don't know if I have the motivation to start.
25,000 or so people in this town, so it would be hard to assemble a lot of students. Many go to nearby large eikaiwa in the towns that also have a rail station. We only have a bus here. I've been running 200-230 km/wk and usually do so for marathon preparation. Need to race more, but hard to pay 3000 yen 3 months ahead of time for a race that I don't know if it will conflict with future work, or fitness or training plans. Wish you could sign up for races here the day of or even the week before. Hoping to break 2:16 for a marathon, but getting older....
Breaking 39 here will place in a lot of local races. I never lost a local race for 2 years and usually won in 30s or 31s for 10km.
I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy! Dude, you MUST be entering some of the BIG races... Fukuoka, Tokyo, Lake Biwa. Even at my best (many years ago) I never came within a 10 K of breaking 2:16 (best is a 2:43). If you're ever going to be in this area and are looking for a S-L-O-W workout partner, let me know.
I've been to Fukuoka and Biwa, but not Tokyo yet. Will do next year's initial "Dai" Marathon in February. I don't get to Chuubu that often, but thanks for the offer. 2:43 is nothing to sneeze at either.
I have jumped the gun and posted a comment about Jeptoo and how I helped her to get special drink bottles to the officials and told her when and where the bus leaves to the start, etc. I realized that this almost sounded as if Boston marathon race organizers not taking care of their athletes. I asked Weldon to remove that comment (which he did very promptly—thanks!) because that was not my point at all. In fact, EVERYBODY at John Hancock really did above and beyond the call of duty to accommodate the needs of athletes/coaches/agents—I saw it first hand; how they stayed late when requested, brought a personal bike (and the coach broke it!) and measuring ruler so Tosa’s coach could measure time trial distance, etc.! I’d like to apologize my haste action and posting a comment that may have led people to think otherwise. All I wanted to do, in fact, was to give coach Canova a hard time for not being there with Jeptoo! Well, we now know why which wasn’t by his choice either.
Okay, sorry, John. Go on with your conversation with another fellow runner in Japan.
Hey, Nobby... thanks for chiming in (again). I don't think people got the impression that the John Hancock people were in any way negligent.
And how's M? Has recovered yet?
Coach Canova,
What can you tell us of Rita's build-up for Boston in 2014!!? Congratulations!
