You can see all over youtube video footage of people who stayed behind in past mega hurricanes.The wind and damage was fierce but they were in the sort of buildings made and located to withstand it. Which some are, and some aren't.

Florida is a flatland so there's not gonna be a massive flood sweeping everything away.

Yeah, I think it will significantly reduce the damage to the house.

The old building at the top of Mt. Washington in NH is chained to the ground. It's home to the highest wind speeds recorded by humans. So, seems like this is a decent idea.

I have no desire to do anything other than wish this dude health and safety, regardless what I think of his plan.

However, what I think of his plan:

I don’t think it’s in the best interest of anyone to perpetuate “Florida man” memes.

I’m not sure about how probablities will shake out in his location for damage, so it’s way too easy for anyone to say “he did the right thing” OR “he did the wrong thing” out of context.

If he and his loved ones remain safe, I can deal with all the other outcomes.

I can believe “ inordinately high wind speeds.” The highest? Big, if true.

Well... there aren't any roads to the top of the Himalayan peaks, so there aren't weather stations there.

Now the hurricane will have no option but to uproot and take off with the entire neighborhood.

My aunt and uncle are riding it out just south of Tampa. Their neighborhood is designed for a category 5. So far no major issues. Storm passed right over them as a category 2.

Won't the wind just pull the straps out of the ground?

This is great for them. I’m so happy. But when you say “designed for a category 5,” I’m not familiar with that kind of plan. Can you elaborate?
