The new Streakfly might actually be good!

Nike redeveloped the shoe in to the mushy mess it is now fearing that the masses would find it too aggressive, too scary. Seems like this proto may be more like a short distance vaporfly, yes. But that is not what nike promised, they promised a true flat which would have been in line with world athletics rules for track races over 800 m.

I think most people are using the saucony sinister as a short distance racer - that is close to what nike originally planned for the vaporfly, albeit with a weird lacing system.

Thanks. I've been following the thread on minimalist flats for a while and the Sinister seems like the preferred "modern flat." I'm actually someone who doesn't mind the more beefed up racers but does definitely miss having that stripped down option and I'm cautiously optimistic these Streakfly 2s will be that match for me.

Honestly, the Sinister seems pretty in-line with more traditional flats. I know Kvothe and the other guys on the bigger minimalist flat thread are looking for something especially stripped down and plate-less but I see the Sinister listed at 24.9mm heel and 18.9 forefoot on RW. As someone who raced my best times in Nike Lunaracers and Flyknit racers, that seems about comparable and it's downright minimal compared to nearly everything else on the market! The current model Streakfly lists 31mm and 25mm but I've found in those that the ZoomX is so mushy that they manage to feel both unstable and un-cushioned.

I was a big fan of the streak lt and streak 6-7 so I tried the streakfly as a potential replacement. Mushy is right. Those shoes got me injured. The other high stack shoes I tried just gave me an unpleasant time.

For what its worth, I see a lot more vaporfly/alphafly wearers at local road races. I think not many like the streakfly.

Yeah, I don't see many people in Streakflys at races or run clubs near me either. It's either full super shoe or regular trainers. Even among the more serious runners I know, I don't know anyone who reaches for the Streakflys. I tried a few different uses for them over the ~2 years I've had this pair and have never been fully satisfied. I liked Giles' comments about the aggression of the new ones with the carbon plate, maybe making these more of a road mile/5k shoe. But, as with all of Nikes recent releases, I'm still a bit cautious because of the recent misses they've had.

Any word on Streakfly 2 release dates?

I use the Streakfly for 6-7 mile training runs. It hasn't caused any injuries and I enjoy the light weight.

Bumping this because a few days ago the IG account The Secret Shoe, who I linked above, posted some updates I found interesting. For those without IG or not wanting to check the linked page, the updates are Streakfly 2 is 30g lighter, has full length carbon plate, and Peba based ZoomX instead of TPE. I'd never heard of ZoomX being anything other than Peba-based foam but maybe this explains why the OG streakfly felt so different than Vapors or even other contemporary ZoomX shoes.

I actually use the Streakfly for track workouts. I quite like it - but pretty limited usage case since I do not do track workouts very often. Never wear it on the road.

I have probably 4-6 pairs of almost new streaks (various models 2 through 6) in size 10-11. Id be willing to let them go for $50/pair plus shipping. Let me know if you're interested and serious. No desire to dig them out, take pics, then get ghosted.

Bumping again because the other day the same Instagram account posted a new colorway from a high school meet. These were marked with 2025-03, which looks like the release date. Reading the comments it seems some people have got their hands on these already (I guess as testers or Nike contacts) and what I've gathered is they're aggressive. All the comparisons I've seen mention them feeling like road spikes, rather than a tweaked Vaporfly. I guess the rest of us will have to wait for spring 5ks/road miles to test them out ourselves.

I know someone running at a prominent nike school and he saw a prototype of the new streakfly. It has a full length plate and is incredibly light - FAR better than the original.
