4 weeks of base, with cross training and then another 4 of workouts...not enough?

"4 weeks of base" - hang'em up cowboy
here's a tip, run all out for the first 400m, then grab your hamstring and act like you pulled something, fall down on the infield.
Possible, but plan your speed training perfectly. Without any base, you'll most likely be a one trick pony, and that one race is make or break. After that, you'll probably start to have slower times as the speed training takes its' toll.
i had tendonitis for a few months (but did a lot of aqua jogging) and came back with 5 weeks of low base milage and anchored my 4x8 at states with a 1:55 leg
What the f*** is "low base milage"?

Depends... How much talent do you have?
:)
I think it's possible. My senior track season I pulled my hamstring pretty badly (tore some muscle fibers) in late March and took nearly a month off, couldn't even cross train. I started running again in mid/late April and ended up running a PR in the 3200m at section finals in May after running for only 5-6 weeks since my injury. My Junior year I had run 4:30/9:46, up until my injury my senior year I had run 4:35/10:00, and after I ran 4:31/9:40. I'm not sure about the 800, but for the 3200 the key was just to do low mileage and lots of stuff at race pace. I was only running about 25-30 miles/week but each week would run longer at race pace.

Nearly my answer - i\'d replace the word \'talent\' with \'basic speed.\'
