there is no reason albany can't be up there with bing for distance. Section 2 consistently produces some of the best talent in the state but almost none of the top guys choose albany, they need to do something to make that package more appealing. And you can't tell me bing is in a geographically better location than albany

How does a D3 coach (patrick) command a higher salary than a D1 coach (mitchell)? She's been there longer and I imagine cost of living might be more in Buffalo than Cortland.

All these universities operate in their own vacuum or under a state government, and it's on each individual coach to leverage themselves in negotiations if they want to be paid more.

Binghamton is one of the top public schools in the country. Albany has a couple nice programs but they’re not really comparable academically.

I hadn't known that Roberto was still coaching, but he's been there forever and was doing great work even when Albany was D3. Not too many coaches in my experience survive the upgrade from D3 to D1.

Full disclosure: I once served as a reference/LOR writer for Roberto when he was looking at another job. (No, I won't say which one, and it was years and years ago anyway.) Just a good guy. I'm glad he's being well compensated.

Surprised how low the Geneseo coach is. For how much talent, especially distance wise, they have every single year, he deserves to make a good bit more.

Most of the JUCOs, as per faculty contract, pay faculty/coaches either a paltry stipend or give them a load reduction. SUNY Niagara (formerly NCCC) deviated from this model a few years back and hired full time coaches as administrators, although they do not currently have track or XC.
