WORLD RECORD! Olympic 800m bronze medalist Mary Moraa powers to a 1:21.63 women's 600m world record at ISTAF Berlin. That beats the former record of 1:21.77 held by Caster Semenya
Considering how little this is raced, and Moraa’s form recently. Not that impressive. I would expect her to be more competitive over the 600m than the 800m but it’s a random distance so….

Mary is now 50.48 (non-altitude) / 1:21.63 / 1:56.03 / 2:33.43.
I have a 600 / 800 model almost in line with this of 50.84 / 1:21.99 / 1:56.03 / 2:32.33.
So I think she's a bit more anaerobically powerful than my model, and this result was in line with what I'd expect. She went out hard and ran through the line.
I think Marileidy Paulino could run 1:20, so if ISTAF are reading, please invite her next year.
I guess I’m the only one who found it fairly impressive? No pacer, 52.68 through 400 and hold on with a 28.95 last 200. I’d thought she would probably run 1:22.xx but that Semenya’s WR would be just out of reach. 600m is probably her ideal distance.

25.51/52.68(27.17)/1:21.63(28.95). I’d say it was pretty dang impressive. Still wish she’d been less passive in Paris instead of trying to sit on Keely.
Impressive how Alica Schmidt made it to 3rd place from last.
She is built more for the 800 than the 400. Her 1:24.88 today indicates she can go faster than her recent 2:05. 2:01 - 2:02 for sure, maybe 2:00 and maybe 1:59.x. She should try for another 800 next weekend. Could possibly get into the Brussels DM. Athlos is almost certain to invite her to the Sept 26 meet in NYC if she improves her time (maybe even if she does not). She was mentioned in a New York Times article about the Athlos meet.

Kind of shocking how well she finished. Equates to 50.mid and 2:00, both far better than her PBs.
She probably has more social media followers than the rest of the meet combined 🤪
Not at all shocking. To be expected. Her 2:05 PB is from two weeks ago after not running an 800 since 15 years old (2:19 PB). She has been a solid 52.x 400 performer (51.x on relays) for several years and has been stuck at that level. 52.x 400m is more than enough speed reserve to run 2:05 800m. Someone does not have to run 50.x to run 1:24.88 600m, those equivalence tables are just arbitrary numbers attempting to compare performances.

Your casual dismissal of equivalencies is itself dismissed by the fact that she outkicked a pack of 1:58-59 women under high stakes circumstances. Thanks for playing, but I'm afraid you need to work on your knowledge reserve :)

"High stakes circumstances?" LOL - ISTAF is not a premier meet it is designed to showcase German athletes with a few foreign stars invited.
A 52.x 400 sprinter who mostly trains like an 800 runner anyway, has more than enough speed and stamina to do what she did. You sound like you have some kind of axe to grind.
When a 400 specialist with an 800 PB of 2:05 outkicks four 800 specialists with an average PB of 1:58-high, I allow myself to be surprised. And she and German champion Hering were both in front of a their home crowd in an international field which is definitely being watched by current and potential sponsors which for them qualifies as a priority opportunity. I'm fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this is the race that breaks out Schmidt from social media influencer of a the last years to legit elite level in a new event. It will be interesting to see.
I'm aware that surprise is not a reaction allowed by mid-functioning autists on this board, but the facts speak for themselves. Sometimes the "race within the race" is where the diamonds in the rough might be found.
