400/800 or 800/1500 or 1500/5000 or 5000/10000 or 10000/Marathon?
Say, in Olympics.

I would say 1500/5k because of all the semis that you have to do.
400/marathon
Marathon/HJ
Marathon then Beer mile
the marathon, then fighting Jason Rexing
Marathon/Shotput
Running and winning short and long at World Cross.
5K/10K
And then, if you are nuts like Zatopek, throw in the Marathon just for the hell of it.
Well, the 10k/thon and 5k/10k are pretty much the same events energy-systemwise. 8/15 should be really tough, but since they often get tactical a good kicker could win both in the right setting, and history has had a few doublers and many near-doublers. So the winner has to be the 4/8. No tactics in the 4, you gotta be fresh. Hard to follow a hard series of 400 races, as well. Quite a feat by Juantorena to have done it.
400/800
Weight lifting, 100km racewalk
Regina twice on the same night.
4/8, unless your name is nick symmonds, the you can just kick in the 400...ya that's right, kick in the 400
The 400m/800m is the toughest thing to double in and be successful at, at least of events that people actually double in.
400/800 would be the tougest. 2 heats plus a final for each, plus you've pretty much got to go balls out in all of them (at least the 400's). Plus i think it's rarer to have someone who excels at both 4oo and 800 than it is to have someone who excels ast 800.1500 o 1500/5k. the systemic energy demands between the 400 and 800 are a lot different.
In jest I would say the 100/marathon
in the realistic doubles sense I would say 400/800 - closely spaced and both highly anaerobic races.
Boston and Big Sur 2 weeks apart sometimes 6 days!!!!!!!Sub 3 many times........
