100%! Hobby joggers from around the world will think nothing of dropping the $500 entry fee to waddle the course and brag that they did the Olympics. Add a charity spin to it and expect 50K entrants.

Somewhere between 0 and 1%. No way they are going to lock down 26 miles of the City for 6 hour hobbyjoggers when security/police is spread thin at a bunch of Olympic venues and the public transit system.
"Mass Participation Marathons" must involve police, fire, sanitation, road maintainence, and bus driver unions. Bribes to politician. Campaign contributions. City permits. Etc. It's expensive. Very old fashioned. Outmoded. Sorta "retro" for the So Cal running community.
Millions of runners in So Cal run on the 200 mile long beaches from San Luis Obispo to Chula Vista every day of the year, 365/6 days, 7 days a week, holidays too. Normally there's 500,000 runners per day on So Cal beaches. 2 Million per day on 2 or 3 day holiday weekends.
I heard Rich in Ca is hosting a group run!

They might decide to have one of those 5k marathons that people can do in 30-45 min.
Decades ago I moved to L.A. Here it's one huge training camp the size of most countries. The people of L.A. are invovled in sports. Not watching sports on TV. But playing sports. Run anytime. Run everywhere. Run anywhere. L.A. is about running, sports, sunshine.
I wanted to find out how many women at the mass participation race beat the Buthanes woman, but the results page only lets you find the results for specific runners rather than just listing everyone. Sad.
