He was admittedly overconfident in leading gun to gun in the 1500m, and he obviously won't make the same mistake of underestimating his opponents ever again.
People here just don't seem to get that there's a fine line between believing in one's self and being overconfident. Anytime ppl on the internet see someone actually believe in themselves, they automatically assume that that person is trying to be arrogant when they're really just trying to navigate that fine line in order to become the best.
But you can't be the best if you don't believe in yourself to an some extreme degree, esp. in a ultra competitive environment. I don't even look at Jakob vs Josh as a rivalry; really, it's just 2 very talented guys in an ultra competitive environment and both wanna be seen as the best above all. How would you expect them to act towards each other? Like best buddies?
So you always have to risk coming across as arrogant. Hocker's statement that no one in the US could beat him if he was healthy might've seemed arrogant to many ppl, but look at what he gave us 🤷🏽♂️
