If I had to guess, we are going to find out that some of these athletes had COVID. The woman who just stepped off the track while leading (Daniel from Eritrea) was totally bizarre. She was a quality athlete with a 30:12 PB, and just jogged off the track while wiping her nose and spitting.
While you may be able to push through 200m with COVID and still perform only a bit off your best, the longer the distance the more I suspect it will show. Would not be surprised if Quincy Wilson, Daniel, Bol etc. all end up getting diagnosed with COVID (they may never tell us to be honest). If Bol isn't in the 4x400m final I will suspect she got COVID.
Lots of people with COVID are asympotomatic in every day life, so they themselves might not even know. Not sure is an asymptomatic person with COVID performs at 100% when the body is pushed to the max.

She didn't look fit. Compared to her performance at the World XC, looked like she was carrying a few extra kgs.
Also, I'm pretty sure Zarbo got in on XC points. That's what happens when you put people who aren't good enough into an Olympic 10,000m final - they get caught up in the moment, and utterly ruin themselves. Irresponsible by World Athletics.

Zarbo is french. I believe the host gets a spot. Don't think its about XC points.

Athletes are very free to run themselves into exhaustion, and being 'good enough' certainly doesn't stop this from happening.
Duh. Kipchoge and Bekele both DNFd and needed van rides home. So did Radcliffe in 2004. WR holders.
