Well, I admit I jumped out of my chair when she moved to the front even knowing it wasn't going to end that way. Wasted too much energy trying to run in the pack, needs to learn how to do that, see Hassan. Still, I didn't see any other American going for it.

Wrong! She took a chance. Bravo! It's refreshing to see that and not the usual controlled pack sitting effort to finish top 10 and out of the medals. That's what Schweizer and Kelati did - run to not be embarrassed. Valby is a racer and I will always respect a racer over a time trialist or those that always run safe and consistent, but never go for glory.

Agreed. I loved this race from her. She ran without fear, knowing that she belonged with that lead group.
I think this was a great first global championship racing experience for her. She can build from here.

I'd say to the front for the experience
What experience would that be? It was no mystery that she would be passed back and then buried over the last lap. Kelati and Schweizer were physically capable of doing the same thing, chose not to, and both finished ahead of her.
