I think she ran a fantastic race.
I dont think anyone really expected her to medal.

She did great. People were saying she would never win an NCAA title, never be better than that other college runner, never make an Olympic team...
She has accomplished a tremendous amount this year.
With that said, I am left wondering if she will ultimately need to move to the marathon to find higher levels of success than today. Do I ever see her having the turnover and top-end speed that the other women do with 400 to go? No. Not really.
She needs to call Salazar to fix that last lap.

This. Valby ran great. She realistically wasn't going to kick with the top runners, but hanging with the best in the world up until the kick is awesome for this stage of her career.

PV missed a golden opportunity. The race was mostly a boring slow plod - in that case her plan should have been to get in front and do what she does best. Push it. Nothing to lose. She did try it, but way too late. Sure she would have been mauled on last 2 laps but at least it would have been worth the trip. As it was, she looked scared, and finished nowhere in a slow time.

No one deserves to be mocked for running an Olympic race, but comparing her finish to Nico's is silly because the pace in the men's 10k was much faster and he stuck with it. The pace in this race was slow for an Olympic final.
