A number of old favorite training and racing shoes are available again as fashion casual shoes. I picked up a pair of Nike Vengeance and am using them for their original purpose.
I'd like to hear if you are running in any of the reissued shoes. I imagine minimalists are especially happy about all the Puma, Adidas and Tiger super-flats to be had.
Yes. I've been in the re-issued Tiger Moscow for quite a while and love them. I've also enjoyed the Ultimate 81 and the Addidas Dragon, thought the nylon version seems to be off the market and I don't like leather uppers.
Are the Tiger X-Calibur GTs at all comparable to the early 1980s version of that shoe? I loved running in those...back in the day.
They are replicas from what I can gather. I tried a pair and found them to be inadequate in the cushioning realm.
I developed plantar fascia problems from wearing lightweight trainers so I steer clear of them now.
By "replicas", do you mean they used different materials than the originals?
I trained in the Nike Waffle Racers for a while, but they are too expensive to order from the Nike site. $100 total. I could stretch them to three months, but by then they are completely wasted..:)

They seem to be a little different. I have been running in the GT II's and they are not as spongy as I remember the II's and III's to be. Still, I like them, and if anything, they aren't wearing out as quick. I see on zappos.com that they have some of the old gel-lyte III's, I might try them for kicks, as they were the first "lyte" shoes to come out in the early 90's.
Yes, it feels like it to me. Much harder material.
I recall the old Tiger flats that have been posted about here in the past: the G9 model used a simple basic rubber for the sole. After much use the sole would fossilize; these replicas feel (to me) that they are a step or two away from fossilization.
I am not a material scientist so apologize for lack of technical language, I can only describe how they feel to me. I got them from Zappos.com who were very nice about accepting a return, great customer service.
No apology necessary. Maybe ASICS/Tiger is using a more durable, but harder material in the fashion version of that shoe. Have you looked at:

The shoes there appear to have the original style EVA (foam) sheet midsoles. They also appear to be around $80 a pair.

I just looked at the Zappos site and they have quite a few "real" reissued running shoes, many in what appear to be the correct materials. Some are on sale today; I ordered a pair of those Saucony Originals Jazz AC for less than $50 with free shipping to boot.

I have been in several pair of the GT IIs for over a year now, they remind me a lot of my old GT-Expresses and they do the trick pretty well. I'm looking forward to getting some Gel Lytes, which actually originally appeared in the 80s.

Been running in pair just like those for months now. Lightweight, 9.1oz, durable outsole, flexible, provides decent cushioning. All for under $40 Eastbay.com
