I think jacob has talked himself into the idea that he has to push the pace and others will out kick him
I mean yeah he's gotten out kicked cuz he always runs terrible tactical races and does all the work
I think it would have been him and hocker battling for the line... Others would have provided a pretty fast race anyway and he certainly would have been on the podium and had some chance for gold but probably a silver
Let it go. He just lost the race, that's all.
Ingy starts with the premise that he is the best and so he should be in the lead. No other strategy could possibly make sense to him.
Fortunately for him, he won't go far on the delusion that he can be better at 5000. 5000 GOAT Hagos Gebrhiwet will clear that up for everyone.
I'm actually a hocker fan. I think people have been underestimating him since college. The guys at tomcat. I mean have you ever seen two tomcats fight. He's got the upper body mojo that propels him to the win
But no seriously I'm just curious about tactics. Cuz I think it's just obvious that it's a losing tactic to try to frontrun at this level
I mean he kind of reminds me of tuohy. It's like you're not going to run away from these other guys and you're just going to be doing an extra second a lap effort....
So I'm just curious what would have happened if he ran a good tactical race and how could he ever think he could front-run his way against the field this strong
Stretch rallies from well back are always overhyped when they work. The vast majority of the time they don't work. That's why Jacob will properly pay no attention. This is the only Olympic individual race so far where the winner was outside the top 2 a long was from home. All the others -- women's 5000, women's 800, men's 10,000, women's steeplechase -- you either had a clear leader during the final lap or someone who came from just off the pace.
That trend was the same in swimming and will continue to be the reality in every sport going forward. American's have historically underachieved at middle distance and beyond because of overboard belief in middle school rallies. The fact that it played out that way in the most recent example does nothing to dent the terrain.
There'd be no way to say. But he probably wouldn't have done any worse. I'd say he goes third and kerr second
Yeah but it's really rare to be able to front-run in the 1500, to lead wire to wire especially if it's a fairly honest pace
I mean it's almost physically impossible. Maybe you can do it in the 800 if you're that much better than everyone else but I would say at any other distance more than that it's physically impossible
I mean the guys behind him are getting literally almost 4 seconds worth of effort savings
I mean he basically paced someone for the entire race and he only lost by half a second. Hocker had the perfect position and basically had a team around him drafting for him
The fact is he's way overestimating his ability and way underestimating his kick.
