Athing Mu is still the best. But credit to Keely who is 2nd best but is now an Olympic Gold medal winner. They are both great.
Nope, Keely ran faster this year than Athing ever has. that final was tactical on purpose. she ran 58/58 even splits and controlled the race. thing of Beauty.
Yes; and prime ETH, SAFP and Jackson would've gone 1-2-3 in the 100 metres. But that ultimately doesn't matter since they were injured. Injuries are simply a part of the sport. Keely fully deserved her gold since she was the best 800m runner in the world tonight and should be celebrated for that
The Brit looked great and in control. Mu's last 2 races were not like that at all. And you can race against who have qualified. Rules MU out doesn't it.
If you take both of their 800m careers until now, Keely has had the better overall career. Olympic Gold, 2x Olympian, Silver in 2020, 2022, and 2023.
Mu has gold in 2020 and 2022 but bronze in 2023 and didn't even qualify in 2024. Can't blame the fall because she followed up with a stinker of a race after that.
Keely's 800 career is better than Mu's.
This isn't factoring in 4x4 gold, where Mu ran a fast time but was guaranteed to win that relay because USA was dominant. Just talking 800m career here.
One thing we know is that Mu has immense talent, however she has to get the mental side right and change coaches and the training location/facility, then we could see an assault on the 800M WR.
