This is presumably what OP is referring to. The August 1 Citius post starts out: "World Athletics President Seb Coe provided an update on his hopes of getting cross country added to the Winter Olympics."
Its a real shame that the UCI won't put forward Downhill mountain biking. A run is 3 to 4 minutes, fastest time wins. The skill and speed are very TV friendly, especially with first person views via GoPro or Insta360 type cameras.
XC MTB is extremely lame and is just the same types as road racing. It really is too similar for my tastes to road racing. Same with cyclocross, although being able to make same use of XC running course would give it a pass.
And to entice more participating in xc USATF xshould force runners to be eligible to compete for this team by requiring them to run the previous 2 USATF XC championships.
do not allow someone like grant fisher or top runners who never run xc just show up to that years trials wanting to be a Olympian w no interest in it in previous years
Good to see xc added, although I'd rather see it in the summer Olympics, but winter is when XC World's happens so I get it.
Next let's cut the race "walking" (it's a slow run at this point) and add a road race and an ultra. Maybe have like a 10 mile road race and a 100k ultra through trails. 10 mile olympic road race would be awesome and insane to watch, the ultra would be fun. Would also be fine with like a crazy trail race instead of an ultra, not sure what distance that should be though. Highlight other styles of running/racing instead of the cheating boring crawl currently called race "walking" since they don't seem to enforce the rules.
i guess technically we could call these winter sports because they are usually scheduled then in the international calendar. but there's usually some ice or snow involved. would we have them run a snow course more like the nordic skiers?
is this a foothold to proposing indoor comes in? i could see where maybe they'd propose XC first because it's an interesting sport but one that's not built out the same as the track cousins at the pro/international level.

Very uneducated post.
How would you know if they have no interest or not?
Perhaps their contracts don’t incentivize CC. Perhaps they are having to focus on indoors, outdoors, training blocks.
Becoming an Olympic sport would change everything for the top distance runners and their sponsors.
I just hope it becomes an Olympic sport before Grant Fisher retires from running. He is a two time Footlocker champion and has said many timed how much he likes and would like to race CC again.
The qualifying time for Olympic cross country will be 21:19 8k on a hilly course. Of course World Athletics hopes to see half of the entries come from world rankings.
If it happens, it won't be the type of xc you're used to. It will be in the winter, in a country where there is a real winter, with lots of snow, so you will see them run a a feet deep snow.

May the best Cross Country runners make the team.
Would it be individual or team? if it’s in 2030 I’m thinking Graham Blanks, Nico Young and Parker Wolfe.

I think for a sport to be in the Winter Olympics it has to be conducted on ice or snow. So my guess is that the course would look something like this cyclocross course:
