It’s a shame she wasn’t this fit at the Olympic trials due to injury. But she should get into some diamond league with a time like this and maybe she can snag a pr at the end of the season.
No need for that. Just praise Wiley. She deserves to have her own accomplishments shine without being compared against the one person in her country that she will fall short against at her age.
Third best performance of her career. Only better ones were in September at the end of the season. Never been this fast in July. I can see a sub-3:59 and sub-1:57.5 by the end of the year.

Injury? Sure, let's go with that. It's amazing how you can be so hurt that your Olympic dreams have to go on hold yet, just 12 days later at a low pressure meet, the miraculous takes place.

I think they meant that injury pushed her schedule back to that she wasn't ready in time for the Trials, not that she was injured just a couple weeks ago. She didn't even run all that bad, she ran a 4:02 in the Trials semis off a 3:59 pb, then could only manage 4:06 in the final that was won 4s faster than her pb, where she already had a 2:01, 2:02, 4:10, and 4:02 in her legs. If she was injured earlier this year, maybe she didn't have enough mileage to handle all those races.

That's the first time I've seen Wiley be that aggressive at this level. She took the lead at the bell. I think she'll use 2024 trials to understand she can't afford to sit so far back, especially at 800.
Wiley said she was dealing with food poison and an injury.
If she wins at this event next year she won't have to skip the champagne.

In the post-race interview, Wiley said she had food poisoning (not an injury) during the Olympic Trials.

It's possible, but if you are in the US food poisoning is not very common if you pay just a little attention to what you consume, especially in the days leading up to a race.
Her form looked smooth, with less side-to-side oscillation. She said in the post-race interview she was working on strength with isometrics.
Unlike the Trials, in this race she didn’t have to go through rounds, and she didn’t have to contend with comparable athletes jockeying for key position on the track; she wasn’t out in lane two for any of the last lap.

It's all in her post-Trials IG post. She said food poisoning roughly 3 weeks before the start of Trials, then hamstring strain a few days after that, which she wasn't fully recovered from by Trials. (And food poisoning isn't that rare even in the US. I got it once from chicken served by a really upscale caterer.)
I'm really impressed by her attitude and perseverance. I'm sure she was devastated to miss the Olympics (especially feeling she didn't have the chance to perform to her abilities/training), but she's picked herself right back up where she left off.

lol What? I got food poisoning last Sunday by eating at a fancy uppity duppity place in rich white-bread Connecticut.
Food poisoning can happen in the most random places.
