How fast could Hobbs run 5k? He does a variation of double threshold training, granted he has his own adjustments and focus on speed.

Around the Olympic Standard, 13:05 +\-
13:11-13:15 I would guess.
I think probably 13:10, maybe 13:05 if he got in the right race. He doesn’t do a long run which I think would hurt him in the 5k. And it seems he’s significantly better than Cole Hocker in the 800 while being significantly worse in the 1500. To me that indicates he’s much more of a speed based runner. If he’s like 1s ahead of Cole in the 800 but 1-2s behind him in the 1500, I think that indicates he’d be 10-15s behind him in the 5000 which would put him in the 13:10 range. I guess I’m just using Cole because he’s the only similar caliber runner I know of who ran an 800, 1500, and 5000 all recently.
I agree with the 13:05-13:10 range. I don’t think the lack of long run would be an issue. Jakob doesn’t run very long. Hobbs typically runs between 80-90 miles a week, in six days. Plenty of threshold work. I don’t think the lack of 10+ mile runs would affect him in the 5k. Maybe in the 10k, certainly in the half or longer. I’m sure some of his threshold workouts are over 10 miles when you include warm-up and cool down.

Him running 3:31.5, means he has reached maximum fitness, but there’s nothing magical about double threshold. It’s just another training option, and no better than traing options that have been run by greats from the past.
I agree that 13:10 sounds about right.
With a 1:43 800 PR, that muthafuqqa don't need to run no five thousand meters!

Exactly. Especially if he’s doing mainly threshold work. He can definitely go faster at 1500 though, even if he doesn’t have the blistering kick at the end. I think he’s in sub-3:30 shape, hopefully peaking for the OG.
13:0x seems a bit aggressive. Remember Centro only ran 13:00, despite doing higher mileage than Hobbs, having a faster 1500, and a slower 800. That was a well-paced race too. Webb is about the closest comparison we can make, and he only ran 13:10. I would argue he was much more naturally talented than Hobbs at the longer stuff too - just compare their XC results in high school (keeping in mind Hobbs was even better on the track). I'm gonna go with 13:15ish.
Something like 47, 1:43, 3:29, 7:29, 13:15, 28:00+ for Hobbs right now, imo.
