Does anybody know anything about having bicarbonates in your blood and it making your run faster?/ Sounds like a crock to me but does anybody know anything about this?

I loaded up on a Thai sports drink that contained Sodium Bicarbonate before the Berlin Marathon last year. I had severe gastric problems at 32km and did not finish. There you go.
neutralizes lactic acid in blood. dont go get the baking soda, it will give you a shit load of carbonate commin out ur ass
give cytomax a try after workouts.
It probably only helps in races involving lots of lactate, i.e. 800-5K. I take a couple of Tums antacids about 40 min. before the race, and it seems to help; definitely reduces the puke factor.
It should be noted that the amount of sodium bicarbonate one needs to ingest in order to gain an appreciable advantage can wreak havoc on the stomach (as Mayeroff alluded to).
from experience, the stomach just needs to get used to the sodium bicarbonate in it...the first few races i almost crapped my pants (literally), however since i have experienced nice benefits. just acclimate the stomach to the baking soda, and don't take more than a Dasani Water Cap full.

IIRC, sodium bicarbonate will increase performance in distances up to about 1000 meters, after which it will decrease performance...

Not a crook, been demonstrated well and truly with research. You find a few papers on it in journals. Bicarbonate (HCO3) is an acid (H+) buffer, the acid of which then eventually, through a series of chemical and enzymic breakdowns, becomes CO2, which we simply breathe out.

It works well but can have an adverse effect on the guts if you take to much or your stomach doesn't agree with it. Don't see much value for it in a marathon given your running well under you're anaerobic threshold. More for 400/800/1500m events (and a lesser extent 5km) where there is high lactic acid accumulation.
