Do you think her performance in the 1500 would be substantially impacted running only 13 hours after the 5k final? Which one does she prefer and has a better chance of medaling in?
In the post race interview she implied she wouldn't do the double. See my comment and link to the interview in that thread. I think she def opts for the 1500 esp. if she wins it convincingly this weekend.
She earned that spot06/26/2024 12:31pm EDT1 year ago
You guys been saying if she makes the 1500 team she will open a spot for Valby in 5k.What would she gain for it?Will she get paid at least? They (ESP and Valby) don't even have the same sponsor so I find it hard to believe.

1500 is more of a 'roll the dice' event than the 5000
hard to see st pierre medaling in the 5000 against all those newly fast Africans. But in the 1500 there's a lot more luck involved so if I were her I'd do that one instead.

Well, she very recently beat one of those top East Africans- namely the wr holder for 5k- over 3000m.
If she qualifies in the 1500m she will be dropping the 5000m
Expecting this is what ESP will do.
It gets even more interesting.
If Valby & Schweizer make the 10k team Saturday night and feel great doing so, it's possible one or both also drop the 5k.
Meaning, there remains a scenario where 5th and 6th placers Whitney Morgan and Allie Buchalski temporarily make the 5k team. Both are within the world rankings quota (as of 6/26) but only at 60th and 63rd so unlikely they would go to Paris. Leaving only Cranny if this ultimately plays out -- highly unlikely but statistically possible.
I 100% believe Valby would double given the chance, assuming she’s healthy. Everyone knows, including her, medal contention isn’t in the cards at this point.

Look at the last world championship. Do you like ESP chance of running a 14:52 or a 3:54? The dice roll in both is them running a slow enough pace and then you being in the right spot. The reality is that in the 1500m or 5000 you could have 4 or 5 sub 3:54/14:15 runners. That a different level than what we have seen from ESP.
reality is she is like the 6-8th seed in either event. Medaling is a possibility but not expected.
There are secondary conditions (weather matters a lot more in the 5k, how you like multiple rounds, how many athletes are right around your time,…) and just which one you like more.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Athing Mu, and Jakob Ingebrigtsen could all be interested in doubling up in Paris. We run the numbers to see how feasible each double/triple is. We've got good news - almost any double/triple you wa...
Nathtalie Blomqvist is probably just running the 5?
Will Grovdal double the 5/10?
Megan Keith isn’t entered in this weekend’s 5 at British trials, but as the only Brit with the standard I don’t know if she intends to double and thus receive the discretionary pick for the 5.

An American woman has never medaled in the 5000, and I don’t think this will be our year, either. She already hinted at the fact that the 1500 is her best event, and the schedule makes the double nearly impossible.
