Peaking too early. Will win no medals in Paris
Why??? not a good idea. He said that’s the plan. Sounds like the voice of reason will hopefully change his mind. No benefit of running the 5k.

A 3:30 guy running a 5k is a tool for a medal.
With that kick, absolutely do the 5000m.
Very curious to see how he performs. 12:58 and 8:05 are strong PBs but even when was very very good previously (2021) he still struggled in the 5k a bit, especially off a double. I think if he can be anywhere near the top 3 it would be a positive result. If he wins that's a scary result for Kerr and Jakob, but he shouldn't run it in Paris. Definitely makes it more interesting though.
His 3:35 (1st)/13:18 (4th) at NCAA Outdoors and 3:53 (1st)/7:46 (1st) at NCAA Indoors in 2021 were with minimal rest in between the events (and hour or so?). With the additional 5k-based training this year and avoiding injuries, he'll be fun to watch in the 5k. He also mentioned in the interview that he qualified in both events for the 2022 and was planning on running them before getting injured.
Good move. The 5 will be another high-leve/high-pressure racing/rounds experience for him. And will add a nice training stimulus.
There probably isn't a single other competitor in the men's 5000m field that is happy Cole is running (Teare included). Any pace other than balls out from the gun makes him even money on making the team. Unless running the prelim wipes him out, that leaves one less spot for everyone else.
He’ll give up the spot if he gets it and Cooper doesn’t
