This morning I was flipping through an old Running Times (1996) and I saw an ad for a motorless treadmill, and it was endorsed by several top notch runners.
Anybody ever try using one of these?

A member of my family had one they bought from a cable tv shopping channel.
The experience was similar to pushing a manual lawnmower. Definitely a good workout, however the belt tended to stick at times so you run, carefully, in a bent-forward fashion. You absolutely had to keep your hands on the bar for safety's sake.
If you are faced with a howling blizzard outside I suppose it is a good alternative.

My parents have one, and it is ok for walking on, but not for running at all. Even when just walking, it's kind of jerky. Get a motorized one.
If you really want to know about treadmills, ask Brandon Moen. He also knows a lot about photography and marketing.
