I have read comments about and, to a degree, witnessed Kessler's difficulty kicking at the end of 1500m races. And yet, after seeing him kick down a field of 800-meter runners to nail 1:45.1, I imagine he's to the wheels to kick with the best 1500 guys. What gives?

I think it’s less about closing speed and more about positioning. He hasn’t been great tactically. His speed is fine. His kick is great. He does the necessary things in training to develop it. He’s just never in the right position to use it, or has wasted energy jostling around.

In this race, I do not think that he was in a bad spot tactically, not in this one. He was right there with 200M to go, and actually in a good spot not leading. Probably ran his last 200 in 26.2? Wightman is better than he is, and Holt would not give in. I don't think it is quite a bad as some are making it out to be. If you watch the video , and I was looking for things wrong, not right, you could say he should not be dicking around back in 6-7, but that did not cost him one iota. I went back and re timed last 200M , I could be wrong, but 26.3? I think Wightman is all the way back or very very close, if you believe that he is better than Hocker, with his 1:44.x and beating him(Hocker) by 1.1 at Pre Mile, and beat Kessler yesterday by only .4? you could make the case Hobbs is actually in pretty good shape and that Holt just had a monster day.

Agree on rewatch after being in the mixed zone. I also think Hobbs was practicing some things in the race. He didn’t have the last gear but also credit Holt protecting his space (legally). This is a good point about Holt..all Holt did was run his line, but as a bigger than most guy, he is tougher to get around . Hobbs was running his fastest to try and clear him off the turn and just had to go wide enough and used up part of his move there rather than waiting . And Holt is running only barely slower, and Wightman barely faster lol, and that's a wrap.

Yep Holt was actually genuinely apologetic about it (thinking it wasn’t too sporting), but it was just good racing in my eyes. He is big and also has wide arm carriage. He can and should within reason throw his weight around a bit if he has position and wants to keep his spot.
Did anyone notice at the end of the race when Hobbs couldn't catch Holt or Wightman that he looked left and right to ensure third place and then kind of cruised in? What's that about?

I did, but I see him only looking right only once with 10M left. It is a thing he does, I agree. In traffic more frequently I have noticed.

People think guys kick off of raw flat speed or abilities indicated by “down distance” times
Many really good experienced coaches would say it’s off strength and that
its a combo thing
Kessler turned 21 in March he would be lighting guys up in the NCAA with his combo of marks and abilities
It looks way different in the company he is in now lol
