I am a NAIA D1 Athlete hoping to go to NCAA D1. I’m trying to figure out options if I should take a gap year and train or find a new school because I don’t want to stay at the one I’m at. Should I do the 400/800 focused on mid distance or 400/200 focused on sprints.
My times stand at:
200: 22.38
400: 48.6 (Indoor)
600: 1:19.08 (Indoor)
800: ???
400/800, 1:19 is a nice 600 time for a guy that's been training as a sprinter and only has 48 speed. You'll be highly limited with only 22-low speed, that's barely good enough for a mid-major, but 1:19 could open some doors as a development prospect at a big program. Could probably run sub-1:50 at the right school. Check out Iowa State, Penn State, Texas Tech, Iowa, Texas A&M, Indiana, Clemson, and Florida. Those are the best 400/800 schools right now, one of them might be willing to give you a chance. If not basically any SEC, Big 12, or Big 10 school will have a decent program and many would give you a spot.
Edit: Looks like you're in Indiana. Reach out to the Indiana coach, you might have an easy time transferring credits there and they have a great 800 program.
