We do t hav e a great idea of Jakob’s 400 time, but I think Jakob could very likely break 12 or MAYBE 11.6 in a flying 100m. The issue is the start, since Jakob is more slow-twitch. Maybe 12 seconds in an open 100 IMO.
I take it back, Jakob likely has marginally better than 49s 400 speed. Maybe closer to 11.7 or 11.6. I think something like 11.2 would guarantee defeating Jakob
His PB in the 400 is 51.03. Even if that's worse as a sprint time than it looks, due to an abnormal degree of aerobic contribution, let's say his 200 meter floor is 24.00. That would probably put his 100 meter floor at around 12.00-12.40, I would guess.
id be shocked if he ran under 12 with a standing start, probably sub 12 with a flying start
No, he could probably run around 11-flat with any amount of work on his start. Speed is speed, and he has plenty of top end speed. I bet he could contend, but not win, in US high school state meets in the 100.
If he dives at the right moment he might be able to dip under 9.50. But really it depends on how good his kick is in the later half of the race. In his current form Kerr could break 9.00 without even leaning at the finish.
Assuming somewhere around 49 flat 400m speed (~48.8-49.2 standing start) then as a rough guess I'd say he's probably good for an 11.8 or so. Who knows if he still remembers how to use blocks, but not too shabby for a 5000m - half marathon man huh?
I can already hear Sprintgeezer quoting Mo Farah's 12.98 as an example to say elite distance guys can barely break 13 despite him closing the last 100m of a 10k faster than that

If jakob can run 400 meters in 48,8,he would have to run much faster than an 11.8 100. Nearer to 11.2.

I mean it should be brought up because it's legendary. The problem with Mo is that he's an anomaly in that he's always been a very low cadence guy. In lap 15 of his 2017 WC 10000m win, he was going 16.6sec per 100m with an absurdly low 173.4spm (source IAAF Biomech report) and was at 200spm in the final straight. In the 100m race, he doesn't get above 235spm, and that's not gonna get it done, especially for all the lost time in the acceleration phase and reaction time. Yes, it was wet.
Jakob rarely goes over 220spm except for the start of his 800m races. In his 1:47 800m in 2022, he started in the high 220s to open in ~26s then was around 210spm from 300-400 to get to ~52s. In his 1:46 pb, for a couple of steps he was mid 230s. With all this info, my guess is right around 12 if he raced right now with little start training. Wish I could find some of his 400 races.

He ran ONE 400m that’s listed on his WA profile. He was 16 years old and that was at the end of a 9 day stretch in which he ran 9 races including a 5,000 and a steeple. In fact, it was on the same day that he ran an 8:00 3k to win Norwegian U18s (I don’t know if the 400 was before or after the 3k). It’s not worth using to make a judgement on what he could run for 400 as a 3:27.xx 23 year old.

Good post -his 400m 51.03 was 70 min after his all out solo 3000m, 8.00.1…

And this is why I was discussing his "floor." People on this website counter-argue before they even read.
