Recent press release says that World Athletics will be testing a steeplechase mile event as well as a mixed 4x100m relay. I’d love to see a steeple mile with all the top guys. Is sub-four doable?

If they're going to add a mid-d event I'd rather see the DM or 4 x 800 added to the Olympic/World Champs.
Maybe a sprint medley instead of mixed 4 x 100 but I DO think that mixed relays may be appealing to the casual/non-track fan.
Distance Medley Relay is the best event. They should do that.
Can you imagine -
??- Sydney Mclaughlin, Athing Mu, ESP. Not sure who would run the 1200m.
That would be so cool!
A mixed 4x1 is a bad idea. I think there is too much of a velocity difference between the genders over the course of such a short distance (especially since these are blind handoffs).
Anything steeple is dumb.

Steeple mile sounds fun but borderline dangerous.

What's the track equivalent of sub 8 3k? Probably about sub 4 mile right? So it should be doable.
As long as the new events don't eventually take away athlete spots for more traditional events in the WC or Olympics in the future, I'm cool with anything being added
Also give us Steeple 110 Hurdles with the hurdles placed the same distance as the normal size obstacles
If they're going to add new mixed relays, PLEASE don't just do the other normal relay distance. SMR, DMR, 4x200, 4x800, anything. Just having a third version of a standard relay is boring.

That would be so juiced!
Why not just go with the already run 2000mSC?

Swedish relay, 100-200-300-400, would be good.
For the US men I would go with 100 - Coleman, 200- Noah Lyles or KungFu Kenny, 300 - Fred Kerley, 400 - Michael Norman
For the US women: 100 - ScR, 200 - Gabby Thomas, 300 - Abby Steiner, 400 - Syd
More relays would engage fans - Swedish, 4 x 800, DMR.
Please, no clown events! Steeple mile sounds really stupid. The steeple is awesome because you need to be super strong to survive the final 600-800 meters. Limiting it to four laps just keeps a lot of pretenders in the hunt on the final straight and someone is going to get hurt in a huge pile up.
Instead of using pacers, how about employing an elimination strategy in the longer distance races? Announce that if you fall behind 13:05 pace in a 5K then you will be pulled. Any lapped athletes in a 10K get pulled. This raises the level of competition without resorting to it being a private time trial for a single athlete. Use the Wavelights to indicate the "cut" pace (if you see the lights, then you are in danger!).
these mixed gender relays are not good.
not fun to watch - gets too spread out
pointless really
plus what you said about differences in speed issue
4 x800 would be great
also 4 x200
the dmr is a race between anchor milers. pretty disappointing event. the way to polish it up is to do decending order- mile, 12, 8, 4. make the milers actually go all out and then bring it down to a sprinting kick.
Steeple Mile seems super dangerous. just watch last nights Festival of Miles - can you imagine adding jumps and water at the paces they're going?

Eliminating anyone who falls behind 13:05 pace in a 5k doesn’t add any entertainment. There was a non-DL 5k in LA two weeks ago where 12 of the 13 finishers ran 13:00 or faster. So you eliminate Anthony Rotich late in the race…not exactly an intriguing curveball.
If you want to use wavelight to eliminate athletes and you want the race distance to be approximately 5k, set the lights to 60 seconds/lap and eliminate men who fall behind the lights (the tail end of the lights a second or two back, so you can allow a bit of a line/pack and for the potential to rally a bit). That’s probably not where I would go, though; I’m not sure how much broad appeal some East Africans racing some lights has.
Personally I think I like the prospect of a SMR (200-200-400-800) the best. It’s less likely to be invariably dominated by the same 3-4 countries like a DMR or 4x800, less likely to be all but decided with several minutes remaining like a 4xmile could be, is short and fast enough to hold everyone’s interest and not allow for a terrible NBC commercial break, but long enough to allow the drama to breathe.

Hiltz would be the most logical choice for the 1200 leg.
