I've started many road races behind a row of children, selfie takers, and other entrants there for the experience. All it means is you don't stride out the first 50 meters and instead carefully thread your way through them. After the first 100m or so it shouldn't be a problem. I've run personal bests in these kind of races. Your first 100m don't define your race (I'm assuming it is a 5k or longer). If you want professional experience, look at Jakob Ingebrigtsen's 5K golds. He starts towards the back with a laid back 100m. If it works for the world champion, it can work for you :)

There's two types of people in this world. Those that get shoved around and those that do the shoving. Decide who you are going to be.

Shove the little kids out of the way. They sprint the first 100 meters and run out of steam.
