Time for Tsegay to switch to 1500m.
Thanks for the update and nice article. Certainly not where Kipyegon would want to be, I wonder if this means she won't double
Another guy in the group who has looked promising to me is Eric Kiplagat Sang, I think 3/3 in international races with 59:50 HM win in Saudi Arabia? Paced at Tokyo Marathon but hasn't raced for a while
Or maybe she won't compete before the Olympics and just focus on getting healthy and fit in time?

I’m starting to doubt she’ll double. Back-to-back at Kenyan trials, and the women’s 5k is pretty cutthroat right now. The 1500 she can make at 80% with the third spot battle between Ejore, Ekiru and Nyaga all in 3:58-4:02 shape probably. Nelly Chepchirchir and her should get in. But at 5,000, we could see Chebet, Rengeruk and Kipkemboi all in red-hot form.
This was early May, still early in her recovery from injury.
Possible you are right. Also in that group is Edmund Serem. Aged 16 which feels crazy but he is quite youthful-looking. 8:20 blowout win last week in the steeple final to win his heat. Watch out. Him and Simon Koech (8:18 to win other heat) are next in line. I wouldn’t be surprised if both are regular sub-8 guys on the circuit soon.
