Most of the time when "running" is mentioned in a pop song, it's metaphorical. For example, the song Running on Empty is actually about driving your car. So is Running Down a Dream. Arguably the most famous example, Born to Run, is about escaping the decaying working class town that you grew up in.
I don't know if any of those are really "cool songs" though. The riff on Running Down a Dream goes pretty hard though.
