Looks to be in devastating form. An early PB of 19.67 in the 200m. Basically tied Lyles in an early 100m race and blazed the 2nd leg of the 4x100 at World relays.
I’d like to see him contest the 100 and 200m at trials, but will he?
On this subject, imagine if they accept a bunch of universality entries ahead of ranked runners for the 100. They say the field size is 56, but only 21 entries have the auto right now. The 100m is a common event for universality entries because it doesn't look as obvious that someone is terrible. As it stands, 35 random countries (there are 206 Nations in the IOC) could send an athlete and fill up the quota and we'd only have 21 actual fast people. They would only need a few semi finals and then the final for the real runners.
Or they could do what they should do, and accept the people based on ranking, like they should have in the marathon.
Yeah, I'm rooting for him. I hated how NBC had a story after he got the 200m WL, something like "Lyle's watches another athlete take WL". I hope "another athlete" beats Lyles.
(1) kung fu kenny ran on the world relays team at 4x1.
(2) if you read the actual schedule 100 is S/S -- two races the second day -- then 3 days off (one day of events and two days of nothing scheduled) -- then 200 is a race a day TH/F/S.
that spacing should encourage folks to double. it would be different if you had to run 2 races a day and perform at different distances. but that spacing is almost 2 separate trials.
re the "universalities" discussion, i took that as almost satire. they have a month including trials to make the oly standards of 10 and 20.16. you're not making this team without going well under those numbers, and when they do so, we will be among the world's fastest. this is not the marathon. we are the "kenyans" of the 100. our best 3 will go under their own steam. they will not be bumped for the universality from vanuatu. i mean, please......
considering how 100 is usually scheduled, if a bunch of teams go universality for the sprint, it's more likely they just add more runners total and adjust how many prelims they run and how many advance from each.

And glad to hear the consensus is that he will contest both events!

Yeah they do kind of treat him like chopped liver when talking about Lyles. I actually think he has a shot in the 100m to make the podium and best Lyles. It is a race of razor thin margins and there's no dominant sprinter in the event a la Bolt.
He hasn't historically been great at the 100m compared to his 200m, I think primarily because of his start. If he can get that start right, I don't see why not. The 100m won't affect his 200m chances.

Update: After his 200m win at Pre he was asked his goals at the trials. He said to win the 100 and 200. I think he has a shot. Sure will be entertaining!

Two-hundred meter dash as sprinted by elites is art. They are pacing themselves, usually at 15/16 to 31/32 effort, first 100m of 200m dash. It's a different race from 100m dash. Let the guys specialize.
