Here's the situation.
I get most of my runs in the way of commuting. That is 4 nights a week I run home from work instead of taking the train (I ride the train in the morninings and 1 evening a week). I do this because its the best way to fit in my running with my busy schedule. Running home from work only takes slightly more time than riding the train so it keeps the wife happy (otherwise she might just clamp down on my running).
The problem is I'm getting bored and I'm running a lot of junk miles. I tend to get my good workouts in on the weekends (long runs, speedwork, hills etc) but during the week I run this same 16.8k route with little variation.
So I'm looking to the combined wisdom of LetsRun for help.
What can I do to
1. Break up the monotony?
2. Get in a better quality workout on a weeknight?
One idea I had was to do a couple K warm-up, followed by 800s and then a couple K cool-down for a total of 16.8 K.
BTW I have the Times GPS watch thingy, so I can do intervals anywhere (not just the track). The problem is often a traffic light or whatnot breaks up an interval, but it's doable.
What does LetsRun think?
